The Adult Services Division within Craven County Department of Social Services provides an array of services targeted toward disabled adults and the frail elderly.

- Adult Care Home Monitoring is provided to 9 facilities in Craven County. Consultation and technical assistance are offered to facilities to ensure that state licensure rules and regulations are met.
- Adult Protective Services evaluates reports of individuals who are alleged to be disabled and incapacitated, without anyone to act on their behalf (including themselves), and are alleged to be neglected, abused or exploited.
- Case Management Services are provided to disabled adults and the frail elderly to assist them in identifying, accessing and coordinating services necessary to meet their basic living needs.
- Guardianship Services are provided to individuals whom the court has deemed incompetent and who have no one to act on their behalf. Services can also be provided to help those who need assistance in becoming someone’s guardian.
- Information and Referral is offered to individuals needing information regarding available resources in the county.
- In-Home Services are provided to individuals who need assistance with personal care and other incidental tasks such as light housekeeping, transportation, meal preparation, etc., to meet daily living needs and prevent premature placement into substitute living facilities.
- Placement Services are offered to individuals and families who are assessing the option of substitute care, i.e. nursing home or adult care home. Assistance is provided regarding the options available, how to locate an appropriate placement and follow-up if placement occurs.
- Special Assistance In-Home Program (SA/IH) provides case management services and an income supplement for eligible elderly and disabled adults who have income below the poverty level. The purpose of the program is to help individuals who are facing placement in an assisted living arrangement meet their basic needs and have their health, safety, and well being maintained at home.
- Special Needs Registration assists disabled adults and the frail elderly in making safe lodging arrangements in times of a natural disaster such as a hurricane. A registration form and information can be requested at any time during the year. A social worker will contact registered individuals to discuss needed arrangements such as temporary lodging and care in an adult care home, nursing home, or hospital.
