Home Delivered Meals
Home Delivered Meals is a service that provides a well-balanced, nutritious meal to the at-risk, frail older adults who are 60 years of age or older. This program is funded by the Home and Community Care Block Grant - a federal grand that funds many programs throughout the nation.
The purpose of this program is to provide 1/3 of the daily nutrition that an older adult requires.
We serve an average of 150-160 meals each day to home bound seniors throughout Craven County. We deliver meals in New Bern, Havelock, Vanceboro, Ernul, Cove City, and Dover.
Basic qualifications are as follows:
For some people, this program is a solution to maintaining their independence. It allows many to remain in the comfort of their own home longer. Home Delivered Meals has given families peace of mind knowing that their loved one is able to receive a nutritious meal every weekday.
Hours of Operation
Meals are picked up by volunteers between 9:30am and 10:30am, Monday-Friday (except major holidays). Most routes receive 1 ready to eat hot meal a day. There are a few routes that receive 5 frozen meals once a week. During times of inclement weather, Craven County may not be able to operate its meal programs. Throughout the year, shelf stable meals may be provided in advance of adverse weather to compensate for missed deliveries. This is dependent upon availability of funds and adequate notification.
We Need You!
This program relies on over 70 volunteers to get the meals delivered every day. The number of adults who could benefit from this program grows each year. This growth will continue as our population ages. As the need for meals continues to increase, so does the need for volunteers. Even volunteering one day per month is a great help. call (252) 638-1790.
Currently need MOW drivers for Mondays and Wednesday and back ups/fill in for vacations of current volunteer drivers. Scroll down to get a complete list of available routes that need filled.
